About Juris Zinbergs: Juris began practicing Yoga in 1993. He is a well-known and respected leader in the Orange County, Ca., Yoga community. He was certified in 1997 by Gary Kraftsow of the American Viniyoga Institute to teach asana, pranayama and Sanskrit chanting in the same yoga tradition of TKV Desikachar and T. Krishnamacharya. Juris also completed AVI's three-year training course in the application of yoga as a therapeutic process for managing symptoms caused by acute and/or chronic disease (Yoga Therapy).  A brief history of Ashtanga: Ashtanga Yoga has its roots in ancient Indian philosophy, primarily articulated in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, which dates back to around 200 CE. The term "Ashtanga" translates to "eight limbs," referring to the eight-fold path outlined by Patanjali for achieving spiritual enlightenment. These limbs are Yama (ethical standards), Niyama (self-discipline), Asana (postures), Pranayama (breath control), Pratyahara (withdrawal of senses), Dharana (concentration), Dhyana (meditation), and Samadhi (absorption or enlightenment). The modern practice was popularized by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in the 20th century, who emphasized a dynamic and flowing style that integrates breath with movement, making it accessible to practitioners worldwide. Ashtanga Yoga not only focuses on the physical aspect through its series of asanas but also invites practitioners to explore the deeper philosophical principles of yoga through the eight limbs.
